Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak expressed his commitment to mobilize all efforts to improve trade within ASEAN.
During a meeting with the ASEAN Secretary-General, Dato Lim Jock Hoi, on January 18, Minister Sorasak emphasized that as the chair of ASEAN, Cambodia will continue to strengthen cooperation in implementing the initiatives under the five comprehensive strategies of the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework, particularly the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP).
The Minister also briefed the ASEAN Secretary-General on Cambodia’s current work and preparations to chair meetings under the pillars of the ASEAN Economic Community.
In response, the ASEAN Secretary-General commended the Royal Government for its efforts to control and prevent the spread of Covid-19 and vaccinate Cambodians and foreigners. Lim noted that these are the key factors to reopen economic activities with a focus on tourism, especially the facilitation of regional travel, as well as support for small and medium enterprises.
In addition, the ASEAN Secretary-General stressed the importance of ASEAN economic integration in relation to digital transformation, sustainable development and resilience of the region.
