The ASEAN economic ministers on April 23 signed the ASEAN Trade in Services Agreement (ATISA). The signing ceremony was held within the framework of the 25th ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM)’s Retreat, which took place in Phuket from April 22-23.
Established in late 2015, the ASEAN Economic Community represents a significant achievement in a decade’s long process towards regional financial integration. Although far from complete, integration of finance throughout the region plays a key role in the financial sector’s continued development, facilitating greater access to insurance, capital markets, and banking.
ASEAN Framework Agreement on Services (AFAS) was signed in 15/12/1995. Its aims is to substantially eliminate restrictions to trade in services among ASEAN countries in order to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of ASEAN services suppliers.
