The ASEAN Integration Monitoring Office (AIMO) was set up at the ASEAN Secretariat in 2010 to strengthen the monitoring of regional economic integration in ASEAN. AIMO focuses on keeping track of ASEAN economic integration and monitoring macroeconomic and policy developments in ASEAN economies. To fulfil this role, AIMO conducts high-quality economic research and policy analysis as required from the ASEAN Secretariat by its stakeholders.
Based on the findings of these research, AIMO produces a number of surveillance and monitoring reports to inform policymakers on developments relevant to ASEAN economic integration. These surveillance and monitoring reports, are presented regularly to the relevant ASEAN bodies. These include AIMO’s flagship publication, the ASEAN Integration Report (previously ASEAN Surveillance Report), as well as the ASEAN Investment Report, the AEC Scorecard, the ASEAN Financial Integration Report, and the ASEAN Insurance Report.
The ASEAN Integration Monitoring Report 2013 was published in collaboration with the World Bank. The Report looks at the overall progress of regional integration in trade in goods, trade facilitation, investment flows and services, where assessment of progress was made drawing on evidence from a large range of indicators on policies and outcomes. The Report then suggests priorities for future actions for implementing the AEC 2015 goals. The ASEAN Services Integration Report, published in 2015, focuses on the ASEAN’s achievements in the integration of services markets and identifies the challenges ahead.
In addition to the World Bank, AIMO also collaborates with other international organisations and knowledge partners on strategic research initiatives. The ASEAN Investment Report is published annually in collaboration with the United Nations. Since 2012, AIMO has been providing support to the OECD Development Centre in its annual publication of the Economic Outlook for Southeast Asia, China and India.
