Cambodia and South Africa explore new opportunities to strengthen trade cooperation

05 tháng 09. 2025

Rath Saravuth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Commerce, yesterday received a courtesy call from Darkey Ephriam Africa, Ambassador of South Africa to Cambodia, to discuss ways further to promote trade and economic relations between the two countries.

In welcoming the Ambassador, Saravuth highlighted ongoing progress in trade cooperation between the two countries and outlined key mechanisms that could be pursued to expand bilateral exchanges.

On this occasion, the Ambassador raised a proposal to establish a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance the exchange of potential goods between the two countries in the future, particularly the export of South Africa’s potential agricultural products to Cambodia, including apples, coconuts, pears, and blueberries.

In response, the Secretary of State welcomed these proposals and suggested that both sides should explore possibilities to coordinate the organisation of business meetings between the private sectors and trade exhibitions, especially in relation to rice products, which are in demand from the South African side.

In conclusion, the Secretary of State also requested the Ambassador to help promote Cambodia’s investment and business potential to South African investors and businesspeople so they can maximise trade benefits from Cambodia’s regional and bilateral free trade agreements.
