The proposed collaborative investment focuses on developing electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Cambodia.
Cambodia and Malaysia are exploring collaborative investment opportunities in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, with a focus on developing EV charging infrastructure in Cambodia. The initiative was discussed during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Battery Show Asia 2025 at the World Asia Expo in Hong Kong, China.
The proposed collaborative investment was discussed by the Cambodian business delegation led by Chang Chivinh, Vice President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC), and Jai Shankar Suppayah, Senior Director at the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), who heads the Export Promotion and Market Access Division.
According to CCC, the two sides exchanged insights on the EV and battery industries, recognising mutual growth potential in both countries.
Suppayah informed the delegation that several Malaysian companies, including energy giants Petronas and TP Energy, have expressed strong interest in investing in Cambodia, particularly in EV-related technologies.
In response, Chivinh emphasised Cambodia’s growing adoption of electric vehicles, especially Chinese-made models. He noted that the CCC is considering pilot investments in building EV charging stations along national highways, as part of an initiative supported by the Cambodian government.
Also in attendance was Oknha Sok Rado, President of the Svay Rieng Provincial Chamber of Commerce, who proposed holding follow-up discussions, either online or in person, with interested Malaysian firms to further explore collaboration on EV infrastructure.
Chivinh also conveyed that the CCC welcomes Malaysian investment and reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating and supporting any business proposals aimed at entering the Cambodian market.
A 17-member delegation from the CCC, led by Vice President Chang Chivinh, is participating in the prestigious Battery Show Asia 2025 and Mobility Tech Asia (MTA) this week at the World Asia Expo in Hong Kong.
Endorsed by Neak Oknha Kith Meng, President of the CCC and Chair of ASEAN BAC Cambodia, the delegation includes representatives from provincial chambers of commerce such as Svay Rieng, Kampong Speu, Prey Veng, Banteay Meanchey, and Kampong Thom–Preah Vihear, as well as officials from the Department of Provincial Chambers of Commerce.
Their participation forms part of the CCC’s 2025 Hong Kong business mission, organised in collaboration with Informa Markets, a global leader in trade exhibitions. The initiative is designed to provide Cambodian business leaders and entrepreneurs with greater exposure to regional and international markets.
The Battery Show Asia 2025 features over 15,000 industry and technology professionals, more than 150 expert speakers, and over 350 exhibitors showcasing the latest innovations in battery technology, energy storage, and e-mobility.
Running alongside Mobility Tech Asia, the three-day expo provides in-depth insights into topics such as hydrogen energy, regulatory trends, data centre innovation, and cross-border investment.
It serves as a dynamic platform for innovators, manufacturers, engineers, and thought leaders across Asia and beyond.
