The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) is ready to coordinate the Cambodia-US dialogues partnership aimed at addressing the challenges raised by the American investors in the Kingdom, said Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice-Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

The commitment was given on Tuesday as the Deputy Prime Minister received a courtesy visit from the American official delegation led by Paul Grove, Member of the Minority Clerk of the US Senate Approval Committee held in Phnom Penh.

During the discussion, Chanthol and Grove exchanged views as well as shared experiences on the bilateral relations between the two countries focusing on investment cooperation and the challenges faced by the US investors while operating their businesses in Cambodia.

The Deputy Prime Minister told the US delegation about the readiness of the RGC under the leadership of Mr Hun Manet to coordinate the Cambodia-US dialogue partnership to address the challenges of US investors in the Kingdom.

The meeting discussed the establishment of platforms for US investors’ concerns, proving RGC’s commitment to strengthen collaboration as well as the readiness to facilitate their business activities.

The idea is to propose and diversify one-on-one discussion dialogues such as meetings, conferences and forums, allowing the two countries to better understand each other needs.

It may be recalled that in the past, the US investors have raised their concerns through the American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (AmCham) as well as the ‘Government-Private Sector Forum’ organised by RGC – the last one held on November 13 last year – to iron out the concerns.

Ky Sereyvath, senior economist and Director of the Institute of China Studies at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, told Khmer Times that the Kingdom and the US were trade and strategic partners for a long time but the two parties found it hard to update into the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Sereyvath emphasised that in terms of bilateral trade and business activities, our country and the US have reacted positively for a long time, leading to an increase in the Cambodian market share of over 40 percent.

On February 28, Brian David McFeeters, Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director of the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) and W. Patrick Murphy, the US Ambassador to Cambodia led representatives from 17 mega firms where they evinced interest in exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia.

The visited firms include Abbott Laboratories, Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM), Chevron Corporation, ConocoPhillips, Estée Lauder Companies Inc, FedEx Express, Ford Motor Company, Jhpiego, Manulife, Mastercard Inc, Meta Platforms, Pfizer Inc, Philip Morris International Inc, RMA Group, Roche Holding AG, Tilleke & Gibbins and Visa Inc.
