Australia reaffirms its commitment to further strengthen cooperation with the Kingdom in several areas especially in the fields of economy, investment, trade, agriculture and climate change, supporting the socio-economic development response to the regional and global crisis.
The commitment was made yesterday as Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy visit from Justin Kevin Whyatt, Australian Ambassador to Cambodia who led a delegation to discuss and explore the possibility of extending collaboration at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.
During the meeting, Justin thanked the Premier for the warm welcome and congratulated him on the successful official trip to the French Republic and the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Witnessing the remarkable achievement from the Premier’s first trip to Europe, the Ambassador reaffirmed the Australian Government’s commitment to further strengthen cooperation with Cambodia in all areas, especially in the fields of economy, investment, trade, health, education, agriculture, environmental concern, climate changes and increase the capacity of the national defence system.
According to the Premier’s social media post, Mr Hun Manet expressed his gratitude and appreciated Australia’s support and assistance in the socio-economic development of the Kingdom.
He also informed the Ambassador about the direction of the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase One of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) focusing on the attractiveness of the Investment Law of the Kingdom as well as the incentive policy provided to investors and businesses that ensure predictability and realism for a favourable investment climate in the country.
Both the Premier and the Ambassador went on to discuss a number of issues related to regional and international issues for the common interest of Cambodia and Australis, which both countries may increase and strengthen their role in regional and global forums, the statement added.
The conversation between the two leaders represented the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Australia as it offered a chance to fortify current relationships, look into opportunities for collaboration, and talk about topics of shared interest.
These diplomatic contacts highlight Cambodia’s dedication to preserving transparent and cooperative ties with its foreign allies, given the country’s continued pivotal role in the ASEAN area and the global community.
Speaking to Khmer Times, Spokesperson of RGC Pen Bona said, “Most of the countries around the world are starting to realise that the current government under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet is fully capable of maintaining peace and stability which is core to long-term investment projects.”
Bona further said, “The Premier has set a clear policy to continue cooperation with all the existing partners as well as to help them expand collaboration across another potential sector as well. This is why many countries, not only Australia, began to explore trade and investment opportunities with Cambodia.”
Later, Mr Hun Manet went on to meet Amida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and also Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP).
The discussion between the Premier and the Deputy Secretary General covered environment protection, promotion of investment and trade by connecting business activities with UN-ESCAP member countries, strengthening digital capacity for citizens and financial support to contribute to the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SGDs).
