Thailand is ready to boost agricultural trade with Morocco, the president of the Thai Senate said on Thursday.
The head of the Senate of Thailand Pornpetch Wichitcholchai expressed his country’s readiness to boost trade with Morocco, especially in the agricultural sector, during a meeting with the north African country’s ambassador to Thailand Abderrahim Rahhaly.
Wichitcholchai applauded his country’s relations with Morocco in the meeting which looked at how the two states could cooperate in several fields, including education and politics, according to Morocco’s news agency MAP.
During the meeting, ambassador Rahhaly welcomed the work of the Thailand-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group in strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the Moroccan Parliament and the National Assembly of Thailand.
The Moroccan diplomat vowed to boost the sharing of experiences of different industries in the two countries, with an aim of further cooperating on different fields such as on climate change, international peace, and security.
Ambassador Rahhaly spoke about Morocco and Thailand’s shared vision on a number of regional and international issues, with hopes of expanding coordination with other Asian countries within the framework of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
Morocco’s House of Representatives joined the AIPA - which promotes parliamentary cooperation between south-east Asian countries - as an observer member in September 2020.
Rahhaly also recalled the strong involvement of the Moroccan parliament in several regional inter-parliamentary bodies, particularly in Africa, the Arab world, the Mediterranean region and South America.
The Thai representative called for further exchanges between the legislative institutions of the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations.
Wichitcholchai thanked Morocco for the annual scholarships it has awarded to Thai students since 1996, including the training of six Thai Imams at the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imams, Morchidines and Morchidates.
Thailand is the first country in Asia to benefit from such a training for Imams in the North African country.
Morocco has become a regional hub in terms of higher education, scientific research, and innovation and attracts several foreign students yearly.
