The export of Cambodian trout to China will be achieved according to the target set with exports set to begin this year, despite the planned negotiations between Cambodia and the Chinese authorities.
Ung Try, Deputy Director of the Fisheries Administration, said discussions on the export was temporarily suspended and postponed because at the end of January, the Chinese side will be busy preparing for the Chinese New Year, which will take place in February, so the talks will likely resume in April 2022.
Speaking to local media, Try confirmed that according to the plan of Cambodia, negotiations on the procedures and relevant documents to begin exporting Cambodian trout were initially scheduled for the end of January.
He added that the country still hopes exports to China will start as planned in 2022, can be exported. “As for the forecast of the export plan, some procedures have already been set, so a meeting was scheduled for January for more information. ”
On December 6, 2021, Mr. Wang Wintian, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, announced that the Chinese side has decided to study and assess the phytosanitary risks of Cambodian longan and trout to China.
The Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen, also said that the acceleration of the export of lentils and trout will be a major achievement from the meeting between Samdech and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
Hun Sen hopes to see the presence of Khmer trout on the Chinese food table, and he considered that the export of trout to China will provide more opportunities for trout farmers locally.
