Thai exports may drop 7 per cent as global trade improves

04 tháng 11. 2020

The Thai National Shippers' Council said in a press briefing on Tuesday (Nov 3) that Thailand's exports may drop by only 7 per cent this year, an improvement compared with the 8 to 10 per cent drop earlier forecasted.

Thai exports have slightly improved against the backdrop of a brighter global trade scenario, said the council's chairperson Ghanyapad Tantipipatpong.

However, she warned that Thai exports will still be challenged by the continuous strong baht currency.
She also said her council has seen the number of orders from overseas rising but is keeping a close eye to see if there will be a second wave of Covid-19 infections in export destinations, especially in the United States and Europe.

According to data released by the council, Thai exports dropped 3.86 per cent year on year in September to US$19.621 billion, while export in the first nine months of the year fell 7.33 per cent year on year to $172.996 billion.
