Trade of Livestock and Livestock Products
Enhanced Trade, Improved Food Security

Demand in livestock products is projected to grow by 3.5-4% annually to the year 2020. Overcoming the threats of diseases will contribute significantly to the development of the livestock sector as well as the development of trade of livestock and livestock products in the ASEAN Economic Community.

Various ad-hoc mechanisms have been undertaken at the regional level in addressing challenges due to the outbreak of diseases such as Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). To strengthen regional coordination in addressing challenges in the management of animal health and zoonosis, an initiative to establish an ASEAN Coordinating Center for Animal Health and Zoonosis (ACCAHZ) is underway and expected to be in operation in 2017.

The ACCAHZ is envisaged to serve as a forum where all stakeholders, including international agencies and donors, will work together to identify potential project areas that will contribute to the needs of the ASEAN Member States and its corresponding funding opportunities. Furthermore, the Center will also provide policy and advisory support to the relevant ASEAN sectoral bodies, strengthen veterinary services, facilitate the sharing of information and expertise on issues pertaining to animal health and animal disease prevention and control.
