Hong Kong deepens Malaysia's and Asean trade ties with a new Kuala Lumpur office

Hong Kong is stepping up economic and trade ties with Malaysia and the wider Asean region through a newly established Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Kuala Lumpur.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Commerce and Economic Development secretary Algernon Yau said the office would strengthen government-to-government and business-to-business links.

He said it would also facilitate two-way trade and investment across finance and fintech, innovation and technology, professional services, the green economy, logistics and creative industries.

"Malaysia is our eighth largest partner. Together with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Kuala Lumpur ETO will steer ahead," he said.

The office, which began operations in December 2025, was established with strong support and swift approval from the Malaysian government.
