President meeting with Putin at Asean-Russia summit

President Marcos is leaving for Kazan, Russia, for the two-day Asean-Russia Commemorative Summit, which commemorates the 35th anniversary of ties between Russia and the 11-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

“We will lead the review of the state of our cooperation and relations with Russia. This will also include a discussion of the next steps toward further deepening and expanding the relationship among the Philippines, Russia, and Asean,” Palace press officer Claire Castro said on Thursday.

Russia Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed over the weekend that Marcos will meet with Russia President Vladimir Putin during the event that will be held from June 17 to June 18.

“We look forward to welcoming in Kazan the heads of all Asean member states, especially the President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr.,” Lavrov wrote in an article posted on the Russian foreign affairs ministry website on June 5
