The most common offences involved the sale of price-controlled items above the prescribed maximum prices under Section 3B of the Act, particularly cooking oil.

The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy has issued 20 compounds over the past nine months for offences under the Price Control Act, Chapter 142, and its regulations.

According to a press release, the compounds were issued through the between July 2025 and March 2026.

The most common offences involved the sale of price-controlled items above the prescribed maximum prices under Section 3B of the Act, particularly cooking oil. This was followed by violations under Section 5 related to the Price Display Order, including failure to display prices and discrepancies between displayed prices and those recorded at payment counters.

Compounds for exceeding maximum prices ranged from BND500 to BND1,000, while offences related to the Price Display Order resulted in fines between BND500 and BND1,000, depending on the frequency and severity of the violations.

Despite the offences recorded, DEPS noted that overall compliance with the Price Control Act remained high, exceeding 95 per cent during the period. The agency, through its Department of Consumer Affairs, continues to carry out routine inspections across all four districts to ensure adherence to regulations.

DEPS emphasised that ethical business practices are essential in maintaining consumer confidence and a fair marketplace. Businesses were reminded to clearly display accurate and non-misleading prices and to ensure that price-controlled items are not sold above the approved maximum rates.

The department also expressed appreciation to members of the public who have submitted complaints through official channels, including Talian Darussalam 123 and email, with supporting documents such as receipts to facilitate investigations.
