08 tháng 04. 2026

"As many ASEAN member countries have already put in place several measures to address what is coming, it is important to ask how we prepare ourselves,” Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah said.

Brunei Darussalam will press ahead with plans to diversify its economy, strengthen support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and safeguard public welfare, regardless of developments in the Middle East, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah said.

He said this in a speech at the French Bruneian Business Association (FBBA) talk ‘Global Shake-Up: Perspectives & Response of Brunei Darussalam’ at a hotel in Gadong.

“As many ASEAN member countries have already put in place several measures to address what is coming, it is important to ask how we prepare ourselves,” he said.

“Many people are worried about what will happen to petrol prices tomorrow in the country. I can tell you that the price of RON97 petrol today is 53 cents and tomorrow will remain at 53 cents. But we do need to plan ahead. Planning is not just about what is happening today, we need to plan ahead for tomorrow.”

He added, “Over the years, we continue to face new challenges. Not so long ago, we confronted COVID-19 and several measures had to be put in place, which cost government funds.

“Today, with what is happening in the Middle East causing significant disruption, we must consider how to prepare for fiscal sustainability in order to face one challenge after another.”
Ambassador of France to Brunei Darussalam Eve Lubin, FBBA President Pierre Imhof, members of the Diplomatic Corps and FBBA members were present.
