In the first two months of this year, Cambodia imported fuel valued at approximately $606 million, a 7.5% decrease from last year.
According to a report by the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia.
The report stated that in January and February, Cambodia imported minerals used as fuels, mineral oil, and refined products worth approximately $606 million, a 7.8% decrease from the same period last year, when imports were approximately $656 million.
The same report stated that in February, Cambodia imported fuel worth approximately $302 million, a 5.3% decrease from the same period last year, when imports were approximately $319 million.
Oknha Lim Heng, Deputy Director of Cambodian Commerce, said fuel imports have decreased because factories and other enterprises, especially as petrol vehicles are being replaced by electric vehicles, thereby reducing fuel consumption.
Oknha Heng added that with green energy initiatives and sufficient production of electricity, factories, enterprises, and other industries will use electricity in the future.
At the same time, He emphasised that “the decline in oil imports has no impact or cause for concern, as there is no fear that the decline in oil imports will cause the economy to slow down. ”
Last year, Cambodia imported fuel valued at approximately $365 million, a 7.3% decrease from the same period in 2024 when imports were approximately $384 million.
