Cambodia-Japan trade reaches $506M in Jan-Feb 2026

18 tháng 03. 2026

Analysts say the rising trade volume reflects the Kingdom’s continued integration into regional production networks.

Trade between Cambodia and Japan reached $506 million in the first two months of 2026, marking an 11.9 percent increase compared with the same period last year, according to figures released by the General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE).

The data shows that Cambodia exported $328 million worth of goods to Japan between January and February, up 8.9 percent year-on-year. Imports from Japan grew at a faster pace, rising 17.8 percent to $178 million during the same period.

Japan remains one of Cambodia’s key trading partners and a major investor in the country’s manufacturing sector. Cambodian exports to the Japanese market are largely driven by garments, footwear, travel goods, bicycles and electronic components produced in special economic zones and export-oriented factories.

Meanwhile, Cambodia imports machinery, vehicles, electronic equipment and industrial materials from Japan to support its expanding manufacturing and infrastructure sectors.

Trade growth has been supported by preferential market access under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), a major regional trade pact that came into force in 2022 and includes both Cambodia and Japan. The agreement has helped reduce tariffs and facilitate supply chain integration across Asia.

Economic analysts say the rising trade volume reflects Cambodia’s continued integration into regional production networks and the strong presence of Japanese companies operating in the country.

Japan has long been a key development partner for Cambodia, providing infrastructure investment, development assistance and private sector investment. As Cambodia seeks to diversify its export markets and upgrade its industrial base, trade with Japan is expected to remain an important driver of economic growth in the years ahead.
