Major tax incentives expected to boost Cambodia’s EV manufacturing ecosystem

26 tháng 12. 2025

Cambodia has taken a significant step towards strengthening its electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing ecosystem with newly announced tax incentives on key EV components, according to industry observers.

The General Department of Customs and Excise (GDCE) has revealed a reduction in import duties aimed at supporting local EV production and assembly.

Under the new measures, import duties on electric motors used in EVs have been cut from 15 percent to zero, while taxes on EV batteries have been reduced from 10 percent to 5 percent.

Industry insiders say these changes could substantially lower production costs for manufacturers and improve the overall competitiveness of EV production in Cambodia.

Experts note that the incentives are designed primarily to benefit approved manufacturers and investors involved in domestic EV manufacturing and assembly, rather than general EV importers or individual consumers.

By easing the tax burden on essential components, the policy is expected to encourage both foreign and domestic investment in Cambodia’s emerging EV supply chain.

The move is seen as part of a broader strategy to position Cambodia as a regional hub for electric mobility and electronic component manufacturing.

Lower production costs could attract technology transfer, create skilled jobs, and stimulate the development of supporting industries such as battery assembly, electronics, and logistics.

In addition to economic benefits, the policy aligns with Cambodia’s long-term environmental goals.

Promoting EV manufacturing supports efforts to reduce carbon emissions and transition toward cleaner transportation solutions.

Industry analysts believe that, if paired with clear regulatory frameworks and infrastructure development, the tax incentives could play a crucial role in accelerating the growth of Cambodia’s EV sector and enhancing its appeal to long-term investors in green and high-value manufacturing.
