According to the Cambodian Rice Federation (CRF), in the first 11 months of 2025, Cambodia exported 801,643 tons of milled rice to international markets, a 39% increase compared to the same period last year, with an export value of approximately US$526 million.
According to the Khmer Times on December 23, CRF expects to export over 900,000 tons of rice for the first time in 2025. This record is close to the ambitious target of 1 million tons set by the Cambodian government. In 2025, the country's rice exports are estimated to reach over 900,000 tons thanks to timely government support for domestic businesses.
CRF Secretary-General Lun Yeng stated that Cambodia's recent high rice exports were due to the attention of the Royal Government through emergency support for rice mills and exporters, helping them access financing to purchase paddy during the harvest season, acquire additional rice for reserves, and actively expand export markets.
According to Lun Yeng, the current global market is highly competitive, especially for cheap white rice, due to increased production in many countries this year, including China, India, and countries that previously imported a lot of rice such as Indonesia and the Philippines.
In recent times, the Cambodian government has encouraged relevant ministries, departments, and private businesses to strengthen cooperation and boost direct rice exports to international markets. The government is committed to promoting the rice industry through financial support, infrastructure development, and policies aimed at reducing production costs for farmers.
Currently, Cambodia has approximately 1.7 million rice-growing households cultivating over 3.1 million hectares of land. By 2025, the combined dry and rainy crop rice production is expected to exceed 14 million tons. The Southeast Asian nation's rice export markets include Europe, China, ASEAN countries, Africa, the Middle East, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
