Both sides express satisfaction with the continued strengthening of relations and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in politics and the economy.

Cambodia and the United Kingdom are optimistic about strengthening trade and investment ties, with both sides agreeing to hold a joint trade and investment forum next year to encourage more active participation in tourism cooperation for mutual growth and to promote people-to-people exchanges.

This follows the outcomes of the 3rd Session of Bilateral Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom, held in Phnom Penh, according to the MFAIC press release on Monday.

The 3rd Session of Bilateral Political Consultations was co-chaired by Chring Botumrangsay, Secretary of State at the MFAIC, and Dominic Williams, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Cambodia.

Botumrangsay shared the progress made in implementing Cambodia’s national development policies, institutional reforms, and measures to strengthen economic resilience amid global challenges and uncertainty.

On the UK’s part, Ambassador Williams provided an update on the UK’s policy priorities, trade and investment climate, and prioritised sectors of the UK to support national growth.

Regarding bilateral cooperation, both expressed satisfaction with the continued strengthening of relations and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in politics, defence, the economy, development, and security.

According to the press release, in the economic sector, both sides expressed optimism about deepening trade and investment ties under the Developing Countries Trade Scheme (DCTS) and agreed that collaboration between the public and private sectors should be further strengthened.

They also looked forward to organising a joint trade and investment forum next year, while agreeing to promote more active tourism cooperation for mutual growth and to further enhance people-to-people exchanges.

Botumrangsay highlighted the United Kingdom’s continued support for Cambodia in key areas, including education, women’s empowerment, demining, healthcare, climate change initiatives, and the Green Special Economic Zone.

“The UK is an important development partner whose support has delivered tangible benefits to Cambodia’s socio-economic development,” she said.

In response, Ambassador Williams reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to continuing support for Cambodia in areas such as demining, education, healthcare, and climate change.

The successful convening of this bilateral consultation marks meaningful progress in advancing mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. Both sides remain committed to maintaining regular dialogue and convening the Fourth Bilateral Political Consultation in London next year.
