Cambodia, Viet Nam ink major fresh cassava export deal

Cambodia and Viet Nam have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the purchase and sale of fresh cassava, enabling two Cambodian companies to export more than 6.7 million tonnes of fresh cassava to Viet Nam over the next five years.

According to Cambodia’s Commercial Office in Ho Chi Minh City posted on its social media to stat that the Commercial Attaché of the Embassy of Cambodia to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam coordinated and collaboration with the Cambodian Cassava Federation and the Tai Ninh Cassava Flour Producers Association to successfully organise the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the purchase and sale of fresh cassava.

The MoU was signed between the Cassava Federation of Cambodia (CFC) and the Tai Ninh Cassava Flour Producers Association on Friday in Tai Ninh province, under the chairmanship of Reach Ra and Va Rutsan, both Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce (MoC), along with other relevant officials from both countries.

Ministry of Commerce officials also led a delegation that included deputy governors of Tbuong Khmum, Svay Rieng, and Prey Veng provinces, as well as members of the Cassava Federation of Cambodia (CFC) and other stakeholders.

The Commercial Office added that, under the contract, two Cambodian companies will supply 6,790,000 tonnes of fresh cassava to 19 Vietnamese companies over five years, in line with the agreed terms.

The MoU aims to strengthen cooperation on fresh cassava supply and usage, ensure stable raw materials for Tai Ninh Cassava Flour Producers Association, increase added value in the production chain, provide technical support, share market information, and promote sustainable cassava cultivation areas.

“The signing ceremony is a key point in strengthening trade relations between Cambodia and Viet Nam, especially in the agriculture and cassava processing industries, to improve farmers’ livelihoods and support sustainable economic development,” the Commercial Office in Ho Chi Minh City stated.

It may be recalled that in October, the Cassava Federation of Cambodia (CFC) and the Viet Nam Cassava Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was chaired by Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, to enhance collaboration in cassava production, processing, and trade between the two nations.

According to the Ministry of Commerce (MoC), Cambodia earned approximately $544 million from cassava exports in the first 10 months of 2025, down 11.31 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
