Pakistan targets $200 million in meat exports to Malaysia

In a bid to boost Pakistani exports, a decision has been made to export $200 million worth of meat annually to Malaysia.

A high-level meeting of the Prime Minister’s Committee on Meat Exports to Malaysia was held Thursday, co-chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan and Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan.

The proposals prepared by the Prime Minister’s Standing Committee will be presented to the Prime Minister today.

Government and private sector stakeholders participated in the committee meeting held to finalize the proposals.

During the meeting, challenges, recommendations, and future strategies for meat exports to Malaysia were discussed.

According to the statement, the committee proposed a target of exporting $200 million worth of meat annually to Malaysia, and the committee’s recommendations also mentioned that work is ongoing on feasible solutions for exporting bone-in meat.

SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan emphasized that, under the Prime Minister’s directives, a comprehensive export strategy is underway.

He noted that Pakistan is fully prepared and meets international standards for boneless meat exports, while efforts are ongoing to develop a feasible framework for exporting bone-in meat.
