In a significant move to enhance trade partnerships, Cambodia and Vietnam have pledged to bolster business ties, particularly in promoting Cambodian cassava exports to the Vietnamese market. This commitment emerged from a recent visit led by His Excellency Va Rutsan, Secretary of State for Commerce, alongside representatives from the Cambodian Cassava Federation, during their trip to Ho Chi Minh City.
The primary objective of this visit was to foster collaboration between the Cambodian Cassava Federation and the Vietnam Cassava Association, paving the way for exploring new market opportunities and increasing the export of Cambodian cassava.
During this mission, officials from both countries presented insights into the potential of their respective cassava sectors and visited local manufacturing facilities. The aim was to assess the capabilities of cassava processing, drying, and corn processing machinery in meeting high export standards.
Vietnam is not only a major investor in Cambodia but also stands as the country’s top trading partner. In 2024, the trade volume between Cambodia and Vietnam reached an impressive 4.6 billion USD, reflecting a remarkable increase of 23.5 percent compared to the previous year. Looking ahead, both nations are committed to significantly increasing bilateral trade to 20 billion USD, further contributing to the economic development of both countries.
These discussions were reinforced during a meeting between Samdech Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, and H.E. Nguyen Minh Vu, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia, on February 26, 2025, underscoring the shared vision of growth and cooperation between the two nations.
