Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), reiterated the unwavering commitment to promote economic ties with regional countries. This commitment is upheld through the existing Free Trade Agreements (FTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), ensuring a stable and prosperous economic future.
The decision to promote economic ties was a result of the collaborative efforts during the ‘ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) 10+1 Sessions’. This significant event was attended by dialogue partners of ASEAN such as Russia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Union (EU), held in Vientiane, Laos on July 26.
During the meeting, Sophea emphasised several critical points, including promoting economic cooperation to ensure rapid and durable growth, enhance regional connectivity, and build a stronger ecosystem by investing in human capital development.
Based on the General Department of ASEAN of MFAIC press release, underscored that promoting economic ties with the regions remains a crucial pillar with external partners.
He further encouraged the effective utilization of ASEAN’s existing FTA with other dialogue partners and the RCEP. This, he emphasized, could lead to deeper regional integration and extract greater benefits for citizens as a whole.
The Deputy Prime Minister also underlined the need for the ASEAN community to work closely with dialogue partners. He stressed that this collaboration is crucial in creating more trade agreements to improve market access, harmonise regulatory frameworks and enhance business-to-business linkages.
